Overview

A pupil in the women's atelier of Rodolphe Julian, in Paris in 1881. Mon Journal t.14 index: «Audrey, élève à l'atelier Julian : 102». The name is presumably English or Anglo-American; the diary gives no first name, nationality or work.

Relevance to Marie

On 18 August 1881 Marie records what Julian said about the prize (la Récompense, the Salon award): «qu'après avoir essayé si ça ne prendrait pas pour Audrey il a essayé pour Breslau et cela a pris très bien» (092.0429). Julian had first tried to get a Salon recompense for Audrey, failed, and then succeeded for Louise Breslau (BRESLAU). The paragraph goes on to Marie's severe self-judgment and a drive along the Seine with her aunt and Cerny.

Identity uncertain

We are not sure who Audrey was. Only the surname appears, and the three mentions we know (this paragraph, the t.14 index, and the earlier RSR note) say only that she was one of Julian's pupils in 1881. If you can identify her, we would be glad to hear from you.
