Who he was

Alexander Alexandrovich (1845–1894), heir to the Russian throne from 1865, Emperor of Russia from the assassination of his father Alexander II on 13 March 1881 until his death; crowned in Moscow in May 1883. His wife was Maria Feodorovna (Dagmar of Denmark). He answered the assassination with a reinforcement of the autocracy (en.wikipedia «Alexander III of Russia»).

In the diary

  • 4 November 1879 (086.0474): at the première of Les Mirabeau, «L'héritier de Russie et sa femme sont dans une avant-scène et ne font que nous lorgner» — the heir, i.e. Alexander Alexandrovich, and Maria Feodorovna (0.8; their presence that night is not confirmed from the press).
  • The 1883 coronation is mentioned without his name (099.0120, 101.0589).

The heir of 1873 («l'héritier de Russie», 011.0112) is the same man. The t.11 index entry «Alexandre III, Empereur de Russie : 15, 22» is a slip: those pages (075.0007, 075.0121, 1877) concern Alexander II.
