Small dinner. The Gavinis, Vicomtesse Pernetti, Saint-Amand, Géry, Zuccarini.
This Zuccarini was aide-de-camp to the late Duke of Parma, a relic of imperial Nice. He is well past fifty, but at thirty paces he looks like a young man entirely — quite short, slight, with a small black moustache. He is already turning into that type of little old-young man, and will die still wearing this envelope of a young man.
I feel unwell and nearly faint at table — fortunately it does not happen. It is hot and these people do not amuse me.
