I have been working since... today is the thirteenth day, for the rains cost me many days. It is almost finished; I intend to redo the head for the third time if I have the time.
Paul and Nini have gone to the villa (a property belonging to Maman, five hours by carriage from here) and Monsieur et Madame are in Poltava. We are four: the Princess, Dina, Sperandio and I. The rain drove us ten times to take shelter in the pavilion (a real travelling players' van — an animal cage) and now that we have come inside the house the sun is out, losing me an hour. The day before yesterday I wanted to slash my canvas — since yesterday it has been a frenzy of work.
I have made the sketch for one of my Salon paintings — the subject enchants me, it is coming together, and I am burning with impatience to execute it.
