Tony is still rather pleased, but very calm withal — and I am not pleased.
I go to the Opéra — we have a subscription for Patti — only until ten o'clock: Maman, my aunt, Oelsnitz, Alexis, and Saint-Amand. The last has written an article in Le Sport on Patti's opening night, in which I am cited — "very beautiful, Slavic type, very blonde, very gentle, white dress with a garland of roses worn diagonally" — with a painting very much remarked, and so on. Le Sport is widely read; it is nice.

Notes

Le Sport: a fashionable Paris weekly covering horse racing, hunting, and society. Saint-Amand (Baron Arthur de Saint-Amand) used it to launch Marie socially, writing up her appearances in the Carnet mondain column under the pen name "Etincelle."
