Madame Gorpintchenko, my aunt, writes to ask me to allow her to lodge two of her dogs at the villa. Of course I agree, with the best grace.

It is so cold that we have the fires lit. I see no one and work all day and read in the evening and am at peace.
Il fait si froid que nous chauffons. Je ne vois personne et travaille toute la journée et lis le soir et suis tranquille.
