Yesterday I was bored — I hardly know where; at the horse show, I think, and then on the promenade.
And today I spent two hours at the Gavinis' watching a parade of visitors — diplomats, senators, and elegant women. Multedo and Filippini were there, and at home there are visitors the whole day. Madame and Mademoiselle Tchoumakoff, the painter's wife; the baroness; the Comtesse de Bailleul, who proposes the Marquis de Maupas to me — he has 500,000 francs of income; Madame Goldsmid and her mother-in-law; Bojidar; Collignon, who stayed for dinner.
Multedo sat for me and I teased him, always finding an answer to his witticisms. Mademoiselle Cerny — a future opera singer, under the patronage of the Basilewskys. Monsieur de Jobal.
