The only occasion on which the diary records Marie painting a Paul. A Portrait de son frère Paul, dated 1876, is held by the Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret in Nice, but nothing in the carnets corroborates that date, and it is not settled whether the sitter at this 1879 sitting is her brother or her cousin Paul Babanine. ↩
