I take a long walk with Dina — to the countryside! beyond the Avenue de la Gare. I am pleased with my face and consequently am in very good spirits.
Grandpapa irritates me by always speaking of Monaco and taking a tone I do not find proper concerning the pilgrimages Maman and my aunt make there.
I withdraw and finish dining in my room. Arthur the butler comes to tell me a quantity of things regarding the household service; he has divined that he must address himself to me. He is an old character who chatters continually and tells how his father and he were always in royal households, and how he was coachman to some prince de Conde or other, and how the stables at Chantilly are arranged, and so forth.
[Crossed out: In a] At every slight opportunity he talks, and I let him talk. Besides, he is a good servant.
