Andromède (sketch, 1884)
Také známý jako: j'esquisse une Andromède, une Andromède, Andromeda (sketch)
Overview
A single line in the diary: on 8 April 1884, in Paris, "Le temps est orageux et j'esquisse une Andromède !!!" (103.0775). Nothing else is said, and there is no later mention. Whether the sketch was a drawing, an oil sketch or a clay study, whether it was finished, and where it went are unknown; no image.
Marie and this work
Four days earlier, on 4 April, talking about #Bastien_Lepage, she had praised a small Andromède she had seen in his studio, "une étude de nu comme personne ne peut en faire: précision, caractère, ressemblance, noblesse de forme, élégance du mouvement, finesse de ton" (103.0705). Her own sketch follows that praise at once, so it is presumably a response to his picture. On 5 April she had planned for the months ahead "la statue sérieusement le matin et une étude de nu l'après-midi" after finishing the Sèvres painting (103.0721); the Andromède may be that nude study, but Marie does not say so. These are the project's readings of the sequence, not statements in the diary. The three exclamation marks are Marie's (verified against the scan, 2026-10-02 RSR note on the paragraph).
