Waps

Overview

Waps is one of Marie's dogs in Nice in spring 1875. Mon Journal t.5 index: «Waps, chien, 11-12». He is the dog she names twice on 6 April 1875 (031):

• 031.0083: in a dream the Prince of Wales comes in by the window and, unprepared for Brunet (her teacher), she tells him «que Waps l'a déchiré»: «Le vilain mensonge, mais le rêve était amusant.»
• 031.0099: after reading in Galignani of the Duke of Hamilton's betrothal to Lady Mary Montagu she throws herself on her aunt's bed: «Victor et Waps mes seuls amis, mes seuls confidents m'entourent en hurlant.»
• 031.0100: she laughs «en appelant Waps pour que Léonie pense que je joue.»

Victor (see Victor) is named with him as her «seuls amis». Waps is not mentioned elsewhere.
