Maria Waldmann, the mezzo-soprano who sang the mezzo part at the first performance of Verdi's Requiem (San Marco, Milan, 22 May 1874) alongside the soprano Teresa Stolz (Wikipedia, «Maria Waldmann»; «Requiem (Verdi)»). Marie spells her «Woldmann» / «Waldmann» and writes of her only as one of the two women soloists of a concert Verdi himself conducts.
In Marie's diary
- 1874-06-09 (020.0183, Paris): at the Requiem, «Verdi en entrant fut accueilli par des applaudissements frénétiques»; «J'écoutais attentivement la Woldmann et la Stoltz car on sait que jadis j'eus quelques prétentions» (Marie had trained as a singer). She finds that Stolz «fait de trop grands efforts pour chanter». See Verdi, Stoltz.
