Overview

Nebuchadnezzar II, king of Babylon, who in the Book of Daniel (4:28–33, footnote 024.0035.1) was driven from men and lived like an ox for seven years until his reason returned.

Relevance to Marie

Stub replaced. A biblical allusion; the king as historical person (r. c. 605–562 BC) is only background and is not sourced here. WRONG CATEGORY: better under culture/religion or history if such a category exists.

References in Diary

On 20 September 1874 at the races in the Bois de Boulogne, Marie, in a badly cut grey dress with green velvet, says she feels in it «comme Nabuchodonosor devait se sentir pendant qu'il était changé en bête»; the dress hides her waist (024.0035).
