Daria

Marie's spelling of Jacques Damala (born Aristides Damalas, 1855–1889), the Greek-born actor, former officer, who married Sarah Bernhardt in London on 4 April 1882 (en.wikipedia «Jacques Damala»; a footnote on the diary entry gives the same date).

The diary mentions him once (094.0365, 1882-04-05, Nice): «Sarah Bernhard au lieu de venir jouer à Nice s'est enfuie à Londres avec son jeune premier Daria qu'elle vient d'épouser, certes voilà une aventure folle. A quoi bon se marier quand on est aussi libre qu'elle. Mais il paraît que c'est lui qui l'a voulu.» Bojidar is «dans les états» and says Sarah is hysterical and that «ce monsieur est un misérable d'exploiter cet accès de folie». The Mon Journal t.14 index lists «Daria (M.), acteur: 303». Do not confuse with «Daria (Mlle)», the index's entry for the pseudonym Marie used for her painting (t.14, p.33).
