On 15 May 1881 she writes that she went «incognito consulter un grand docteur, Chairon, mes oreilles guériront. L'enveloppe du poumon droit est malade et depuis longtemps, pleurésie, tout dans le gosier est abimé. Je lui ai demandé tout cela en des termes tels qu'il a dû me dire la vérité après avoir bien vu la maladie.» The consultation concerns her hearing, lung and throat.
