Baron de Bauche

Overview

A gentleman the Bashkirtseffs met at Spa in July 1874. Kernberger (2013, glossary) has him as an "acquaintance in Monte Carlo and Spa". Marie's introduction: "le baron de Bauche, un monsieur qui à Monte-Carlo faisait force avances à maman avant de savoir qui elle était. A l'heure qu'il est il est très charmant et le seul monsieur d'ici" (021/1874-07-08). His wife, by Marie's account, was "née princesse Troubetskoy et sœur de la princesse Woronzoff" (021/1874-07-19).

Relevance to Marie

At Spa he keeps company with Marie's mother at the band concerts and at table d'hôte (021/1874-07-08 to 07-20, 022/1874-07-29, 022/1874-08-04). In Nice Marie greets him as "mon ami de Bauche" at the Café Américain benefit (035.0153). In January 1877 he is one of her partners at the Skating, "qui m'a vue petite à Spa", and introduces his brother-in-law to her mother (068/1877-01-21); she meets him there again on 29 January (068/1877-01-29).
