A spa town in the Isère, in the French Alps, with sulphurous waters prescribed for respiratory complaints (source footnote at 092.0004; Wikipedia, «Allevard»). It is the cure Marie's doctors send her to in 1881, and in 1883 she names it as where an acquaintance with tuberculosis spent her summers.
In Marie's diary
- 1881-05-15 (092.0004, Paris): «Il faut aller à Allevard et suivre un traitement. Bien. J'irai en revenant de Russie et de là à Biarritz.»
- 1881-05-16 (092.0016): her own doctor advises against going; Marie resolves nonetheless «pour Allevard, y rester cinq semaines, cela me mènera à juillet».
- 1883-10-17 (102.0012): of the consumptive Mlle Collignon: «passant les étés à Allevard et les hivers dans le midi et cela a duré huit ans». Marie herself fears she is «poitrinaire».
The 1881 plan was not carried out as stated: in the summer of 1881 she is in Paris and Russia, and in autumn at Biarritz.
