Wolgren
Also known as: Wolgren
Overview
«Un sculpteur finlandais M. Wolgren», who in March 1883 comes to teach Marie the rudiments of sculpture. She chose him «parce que c'est un brave petit ménage d'artistes, jeunes, modestes, pauvres et je suppose ayant assez de savoir pour m'apprendre l'alphabet du métier» (098.0461, 6 March 1883). This is almost certainly the Finnish sculptor Ville Vallgren (1855-1940), who studied and worked in Paris from 1877 and was married from 1882 to the sculptor Antoinette Råström (Wikipedia, «Ville Vallgren»; Finnish National Library authority record): a young, poor couple of artists in Paris fits «petit ménage d'artistes». Confidence 0.8; the diary spells the name only «Wolgren» and the Mon Journal index («Wolgren (M.), sculpteur») gives no first name.
In Marie's diary
- 1883-03-06 (098.0461, Paris): first visit; Marie chooses him as her sculpture teacher.

- 1883-10-17 (102.0011): «le Wolgren et puis cet autre m'ont bien montré comment on monte une armature».
