Show in diary 1 mention Overview
Not a person: a painting or sculpture that Marie planned for the Salon of 1884.Relevance to Marie
On 29 August 1883 she notes in one line: «La statue. Les gamins. Les Saintes femmes. Si j'ai ces trois choses au Salon je donnerai mille francs aux pauvres, incognito. Ou trois choses n'importe lesquelles, si je fais d'autres tableaux qui sont mieux» (101.0270). «Les gamins» are probably the picture Jean et Jacques (alias «les deux gamins»), «Les Saintes femmes» her project Les Saintes Femmes; «La statue» would be a third subject (our reading).Identity uncertain
We cannot say which work «La statue» is. The 1885 catalogue of her works lists no title with that name (Union des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs, 9 February 1885, Gallica ark:/12148/bpt6k131932r), and later pages do not return to it. If you can tell which picture or sculpture she means, we would be glad to hear from you.References in Diary
