Overview

A Russian prince of the Gagarine family (Gagarin), seen among the Russian society of Nice and Paris in the early 1870s. The Mon Journal indexes list «Gagarine (prince)» in t.1 (pp. 31, 48–50, 89), t.2 (pp. 169, 171, 178, 198) and t.3 (pp. 54–55, 69, 98, 256), and «Gagarine (princesse)» in t.3. The entry is tagged on a single paragraph; whether the earlier index entries belong to the same man is not established.

Relevance to Marie

On 1 July 1874, at Spa, at the evening given by Gambart where Nadaud sang, Marie runs through the Nice men she knows: «le prince Gagarine n'en ayant pas du tout» (of wit) (020.0487). Her list includes Woermann, Count Markoff, Tchetvertinski, Lewin, d'Audiffret and the count de Lambertye. She thinks nothing of him.
