Overview

A painting by Marie, «mon Pêcheur à la ligne» (a fisherman angling): not a person. She gave it in August 1883 to the lottery for the victims of the Ischia earthquake (Ischia lottery).

Relevance to Marie

(101.0266). She is pleased with the water but worries about the frame and the setting, then turns bitter about art and the crowd. The lots were shown at the gallery of Georges Petit.

Identification

The picture is not named elsewhere in the diary. The 1885 memorial catalogue of Marie's works (Union des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs, 9 February 1885, Gallica ark:/12148/bpt6k131932r) lists no. 81 «Pêcheur à Nice», 0.40 × 0.30 m, as the only fisherman title; whether it is this canvas is not established (works catalogue compiled in this project, docs/research/marie-bashkirtseff-works-catalogue.md). No image is known.
