Thematic Tag: Nature & Landscape

This thematic tag collects diary paragraphs where Marie looks at nature for itself: a view, the sea, a garden, a moonlit lake, the Russian steppe or the Riviera hills, described or felt as landscape. It is about what she sees and feels in front of nature, not about the day's weather.

Tagging Criteria

  • Tag a landscape, view or garden described.
  • Tag the sea, mountains, a river or a forest as a presence.
  • Tag nature felt: the effect of a place or season on her mood.
  • Tag a comparison between landscapes (the green of the South against the North).
  • Do not tag weather as the day's conditions (Weather).
  • Do not tag a landscape as a painting subject or a study for a picture (Her Art).
  • Do not tag a journey (Travel) with no landscape in view.
  • Do not tag a place named only as a location.
  • The bar is that the paragraph is substantively about the theme; a passing word never qualifies. A paragraph takes at most three themes.

  • False friends: nature in the sense of temperament; la nature as a model in art

Notable Patterns

  • Landscape writing often arises on journeys (Switzerland, Germany, Italy), where it also takes Travel.
  • A landscape often triggers a mood passage: melancholy in the North, exaltation on the Riviera.

Example Paragraphs

  • `005.0076` — the colour of the land as Nice nears; "que la Suisse est belle"
  • `033.0117` — a moonlit view through the trees, "que c'est donc beau"
