Mme Hochon

Parisian hostess of the winter of 1883-84, a friend of the maréchale (Canrobert's circle). Marie describes her as «fille de M. Lefurel architecte du Louvre», a salon-keeper and «puissance artistique» who «connaît tous les artistes, les grands, les savants et les puissants»; she is received at the Orléans princes', «très belle, très grande et très sage» (101.0325-101.0326, 10 Sept 1883). Through her Marie obtains a subscription to the Théâtre-Italien. Mon Journal t.16 index: «Hochon (Mme)», pp. 31, 160, 162, 188.

Marie attends her soirées: 4 April 1883 (099.0036, with General Fleury and wife; the maréchale introduced the Bashkirtseffs); 14 March 1884, an intimate evening with artists, the duchesse d'Uzès, the comtesse Cornet and the maréchale (103.0516); 1 May 1884, where she receives compliments on her painting and Massenet, Carolus-Duran, Madeleine Lemaire, the Fleurys and the Canrobert are present (104.0078). Mme Hochon and her mother are among the callers of 15 March 1884 (103.0528).

The architect Marie means is Hector Lefuel (1810-1881), architect of the New Louvre (Wikipedia, «Hector Lefuel»); the diary's spelling is «Lefurel». No source consulted confirms Mme Hochon as his daughter, so this rests on Marie's statement. See LEFUREL.
