Overview

The railway station from which Turgenev's coffin was sent to Russia on 1 October 1883: «Notre grand écrivain Tourguenieff mort il y a quinze jours est expédié aujourd'hui en Russie. Grande cérémonie d'adieux à la gare. Discours de M. Renan, de M. About et de Virouboff un Russe qui a parlé français très bien et a ému plus que les autres» (101.0470). A commemorative service was held at the Gare du Nord, with Renan and About speaking beside the train (Henry James, «Ivan Turgenieff», 1903, via the Wikipedia article «Ivan Turgenev», which gives his death at Bougival on 3 September 1883). Marie's «il y a quinze jours» is her own count.

Marie writes only «la gare»; the station is identified from the accounts of the ceremony. A generic «gare» is a common noun and is not tagged. (Renamed from GARE in the stub-pass apply, 2026-10-22.)
