Show in diary 324 mentions Thematic Tag: Dreams
This thematic tag collects diary paragraphs where Marie records or interprets a night dream: Hamilton or Cassagnac in her sleep, the dead returning, a dream read as an omen. She notes dreams quickly and often reads them as signs, so this tag sits close to Omens & Superstition but is judged separately.
Tagging Criteria
- Tag a dream of the night before recorded ("j'ai rêvé que…", "cette nuit j'ai vu en rêve").
- Tag the interpretation Marie or others give to a dream.
- Tag a dream told in a margin note or a letter.
- Tag a nightmare or sleep-vision that Marie describes in some detail.
- Do not tag daydreams and ambitions ("je rêve de gloire", "mon rêve").
- Do not tag a person who is "un rêve" (lovely as a dream).
- Do not tag sleeplessness with no dream (Health & Illness if it is a symptom).
- Do not tag dreams in books or plays she discusses.
- The bar is that the paragraph is substantively about the theme; a passing word never qualifies. A paragraph takes at most three themes.
Common French Cues
- Verbs: rêver, voir en rêve, faire un rêve, songer (in sleep)
- Nouns: un rêve, un songe, un cauchemar
- Phrases: "j'ai rêvé que", "cette nuit", "en dormant", "ce rêve veut dire"
- False friends: rêver de + noun in the sense of "to long for"; rêverie is daydreaming
Notable Patterns
- Marie often dreams of the men she loves and reads the dream as a sign.
- A dream recorded only in a margin note still counts; the kind marker does not change the criterion.
