• 11 April 1880 (087.0832): Mme de Bailleul (BAILLEUL) «se remarie décidément avec le comte de Girardin, membre du Jockey, parfait comme famille et alliances, 20.000 francs de rente et 52 ans».
• 24 April 1880 (088.0004): the dinner given for «la comtesse de Bailleul qui devait se marier (en troisième noces) avec le comte de Girardin (rien d'Emile) mais il paraît que c'est retardé ou rompu». Marie stresses that he is no relation of Émile de Girardin.

Kernberger 2013 (glossary): «Girardin, Count de: his marriage to Countess de Bailleul is cancelled».

Identity uncertain

We are not sure who this is. The diary gives only a count of Girardin, a member of the Jockey Club, aged 52 in 1880 (so born about 1828), with 20,000 francs a year, whose engagement to the comtesse de Bailleul was put off or broken in April 1880. No first name is given, and searches for the engagement in the press and genealogies found nothing. If you can identify him, we would be glad to hear from you.
