Identity

M. Brunet, Marie's private tutor in Nice: «professeur de littérature» in the printed index of Mon Journal t.3 (p. 16 etc.) and «professeur» in the t.8 and t.10 indexes. He gives her lessons in literature, grammar, rhetoric, history and mythology from September 1873, French lessons alongside, and from February 1875 Latin (Caesar, Sallust). He is not a household servant.

• 1873-11-13 (012): «une heure de latin et une heure avec Brunet» added to her studies.
• 1873-11-15 (012): Brunet «me chagrine toujours en disant que Paul ne fait rien» (he reports on her brother Paul's laziness at the lycée).
• 1874-03-07 (017): Marie has «Brunet à quatre heures un quart», and Biasini, who was to meet her at "55", only arrives at four when she has already left.
• 1874-03-12 (017.0283-0284): «je rougis quand on dit "Brunet", je me serais assassinée, tant j'en rage !» She calls him «ce domestique», a class-anxious word of hers for a hired teacher, and prays «faites que je ne rougisse plus pour ce domestique», because her mother seemed to pronounce his name in a certain way. The diary does not say why she blushes (LAN note: "AMBIGUOUS").
• 1875-02-16 (029): «J'ai commencé le latin avec Brunet et, sauf l'exécrable prononciation française, ses leçons sont excellentes.»
• 1875-02-25 (030): «C'est incroyable comme j'avance en latin avec Brunet.»
• 1875-03-11 (030): «Brunet est très content de mon latin».
• 1875-07-14 (036): «En cinq mois j'ai fait, au dire de Brunet, ce qu'on fait au lycée en trois ans.»
• 1876-06-28 (062): «disait M. Brunet, mon maître» (his remark on the simplicity of the Gospel narrative).
• 1877-05-26 (071): «mon vieux professeur Brunet» comes to help with the «fameux catalogue»; 1877-08-04 (073) and 1877-09-06 (074): he corresponds with her about the catalogue.

• 087/1880-01-24 «le baron Brunet» at a lunch with Gavini and Prince Napoleon is a different man (Mon Journal t.13 index lists «Brunet (baron)» separately); tag should be removed.
• «Mme Brunet-Capdeville» (085/1879-06-21, «de chez les Lesseps») is a third person.
