Tonight is the grand ball in aid of the night shelter charity. President and Vice-president: the Duchesse de Maillé and the Comtesse de Pourtalès. It is the finest — the only fashionable — charity ball. Maman is a patroness. And I should have liked to go. And I am not going. As this afternoon at the Salon — Friday is the fashionable day — and I stayed home to paint.
C'est ce soir le grand bal au profit de l'œuvre de l'hospitalité de nuit. Présidente et Vice-présidente, duchesse de Maillé et comtesse de Pourtalès. C'est le plus, le seul bal de charité chic. Maman est patronnesse. Et j'aurais aimé y aller. Et je n'y vais pas. Comme cet après-midi au Salon, le vendredi est le jour chic et je suis restée à peindre à la maison.
