Papa spoke with Larderei at Monaco and tells us that this illustrious Florentine was very measured in his expressions about Savine's conduct — which speaks well of him overall — and very polite. He has always had charming manners. People say he has sunk rather low; Barnola used the word taint. I do not believe there is anything beyond the usual — consorting openly with women of the streets and gambling with anyone; that is already fine enough, but I have kept a soft spot for my family from Florence.
