The sale is more lively. I have my green dress, which causes a real sensation by its simplicity and my figure. Soutzo, Wodzinski, Lahovari, the Poitrineaus, Mme Gavini. I sell another voucher for a hundred and fifty francs to Mme Gaupillat; the other four to Mmes de Tredern, Reille, and two to Mme de Tanlay.

Vente plus animée. J'ai ma robe verte qui cause une véritable sensation par sa simplicité et ma taille. Soutzo, Wodzinski, Lahovari, les Poitrineau, Mme Gavini. Je vends encore un bon cent cinquante francs à Mme Gaupillat, les autres quatre à Mmes de Tredern, Reille et deux à Mme de Tanlay.

The painting is sold to Prince Soutzo for three hundred francs. There is animation only at our booth; it looks as though we are selling enormously, and we sell more than elsewhere.

Le tableau est vendu à M. le prince Soutzo trois cents francs. Il n'y a d'animation qu'à notre boutique, on a l'air d'y vendre énormément et l'on y vend plus qu'ailleurs.

I enjoy myself and make them money, sometimes by a cigarette, sometimes by something else.

Je m'amuse et je leur fait de l'argent, tantôt par une cigarette tantôt autre chose.

It is Mme Gavini who animates me; when she is there I hold up.

C'est Mme Gavini qui m'anime, quand elle est là je me soutiens.

Let us not forget that Julian told me this morning that my painting has been accepted, and curiously, I feel no satisfaction. Maman's joy annoys me. This success is not worthy of me.

N'oublions pas que Julian m'a annoncé ce matin que mon tableau est reçu et chose curieuse je n'en éprouve aucune satisfaction. La joie de maman m'ennuie. Ce succès-là n'est pas digne de moi.

Company for dinner this evening. Mmes Gavini (Denis is in Corsica), Pernety; M. de Miranda, his daughter; MM. de Morgan, de Rouzat, Soutzo, de Chaudordy, de Las Cases.

The portraits I have to do are: the Vicomtesse de Tredern, a hundred francs; the Baroness Reille, a hundred francs; Mme de Tanlay's two little girls, two hundred francs; Mme Renouard (daughter of Princess Lubominska), a hundred and fifty francs; and Mme Gaupillat, a hundred and fifty francs. Add to that the three hundred francs from the painting sold to Soutzo and that makes a thousand francs, and I think I collected a hundred francs or so here and there.

Les portraits que j'ai à faire sont Mmes la vicomtesse de Tredern, cent francs, la baronne Reille, cent francs, les deux petites filles de Mme de Tanlay, deux cents francs. Mme Renouard (fille de la princesse Lubominska, cent cinquante francs et Mme Gaupillat, cent cinquante francs. Ajoutez-y les trois cents francs du tableau vendu à Soutzo et cela fait mille francs, puis je pense que j'ai pris à droite et à gauche une centaine de francs.
