This evening at the Italian Opera. Il Trovatore with Patti and Nicolini. One sympathizes with these lovers, but it is, I believe, because M. de Caux is a dirty gentleman.
Ce soir à l'Opéra italien. "Il Trovator" avec la Patti et Nicolini. On leur sympathise à ces amoureux, mais c'est je crois parce que M. de Caux est un sale Monsieur.
We have Saint-Amand as our cavalier. Everyone in the house pays him some attention; he was the faithful, the greatest admirer of Adelina, and it is the first time since the war and her break with her husband that he hears her sing in Paris.
Nous avons Saint Amand pour cavalier. Tout le monde dans la salle s'occupe un peu de lui, il était le fidèle, le plus grand admirateur d'Adelina et c'est la première fois depuis la guerre et sa rupture avec son mari qu'il l'entend chanter à Paris.
This Saint-Amand is a little touched, and it seems to me I have known him for ten years.
Il est un peu toqué ce Saint Amand et il me semble que je le connais depuis dix ans .
After the Opera we go home to have tea.
