Collignon helps me sort through a work on costumes; I need it now for my compositions.

And then — oh horror! — instead of making a sketch or going to the Louvre, we have Madame Gerbel and her daughters and yet another Russian lady for lunch, until four o'clock!! After which we go for a walk with Madame Gavini, and my mother keeps me in a state of alarm the whole time with her conversations and her veiled hints, which draw from Mother Gavini the observation that she had been to the Rothschilds' and that several of her friends had asked to be included and the Rothschilds had declined.

Et puis ô horreur ! Au lieu de faire une esquisse ou d'aller au Louvre, nous avons Mme Gerbel et ses filles et encore une dame Russe à déjeuner et jusqu'à quatre heures !! Après quoi nous allons nous promener avec Mme Gavini et ma mère me fait trembler tout le temps avec ses conversations et ses lointaines insinuations qui font dire à la mère Gavini qu'elle a été chez les Rothschild et que plusieurs de ses amies ont demandé d'être engagées et que les Rothschild n'ont pas voulu.

Several people came not knowing we had changed our day. Among others, Multedo, who is trying to please my aunt because he believes she influences me... Horrible creature!

Plusieurs personnes sont venues ne sachant pas que nous avons changé de jour. Entre autres Multedo qui tente de plaire à ma tante parce qu'il croit qu'elle m'influence... Horrible bête !
