At Virot I find a hat, and I cannot say how happy this makes me! I could not sleep because of this head-covering. Who invented them, good God!
I enjoy myself greatly at my purveyors and willingly spend my time with all of them, except Laferriere, whom I fear. Nearly two hours pass at Virot; I order my bed linens at the Maison de Blanc, and from there we order another dress for Dina at Querteux. Those Querteux would dearly like to work for me, but I do not have enough dresses made to dress from three houses.
Afterwards we run some errands for Maman and at last go to the Avenue Montaigne to two horse dealers. Bertellet and Honore, I believe, but these are not horses worthy of me, especially at Honore's — his have disjointed hind legs or I do not know what, only their legs have something strange about them.
Prince Jaxa dines with us and wearies me with stupid, empty talk.
