I slept until eleven, how shameful! Yesterday I reread all my journals from the beginning. I did not read everything, and it took me two hours. I found absurd things in them, of which I am now ashamed.
Maman and the others went to Monaco; Dina and I with Princess Galitzine at the concert. I am at ease with her; I can say what I think — with others I feel constrained. Before her I can say that I do not like the bourgeois, that I love the nobility, that the society of Nice is too mixed, that one meets clerks, employees, and so forth, that I like to go to the best houses for my dresses — I can criticize at will. Whereas before many others I cannot express my ideas and opinions, for everyone in Nice has more or less these faults. We even touched upon the question of marriage.
— Marry a baker, so long as he is rich; do not look for titles — God preserve us from that.
She probably looked for the title and found that scoundrel of a husband. My opinion is different: I detest the moujiks. I proposed going for ice cream at La Victoire, by carriage of course, and then we dropped the lady at her house and went home. Paul at the theatre.
