Overview

Pandolini, an Italian singer whom Marie hears in Guillaume Tell in October 1881. The footnote at 093.0211 gives «probably the Italian baritone Francesco Pandolfini (1836–1916)» (Troubetzkoy archive, «Portrait of Francesco Pandolfini»), spelling the name differently from Marie.

Relevance to Marie

Stub replaced. Identification with Pandolfini is the footnote's, hedged ('probably'); not independently checked.

References in Diary

On 11 October 1881 the family attend the opera, in a box on the stage, with Pollack's son and father; when «Pandolini s'est approché» Marie tells him she had heard him «à Paris où il a admirablement chanté aux Italiens»; he is «un être superbe, un Titien, la désinvolture du portrait de François 1er et une tête à la Don Carlos moderne», and she thinks the little artist is in love with her (093.0211).
