Overview

Le Phare du Littoral (full name: Le Phare du littoral méditerranéen) was a regional newspaper based in the Alpes-Maritimes region of France, originally founded in Antibes in 1865 and later associated with Nice, running until 1938. In the early 1870s it was an active presence in Nice's political life, publishing on local affairs and sometimes suppressed by the prefect during politically sensitive moments. Relevance to Marie

Marie mentions Le Phare du Littoral in the context of a legal dispute involving her brother Georges and the Tolstoy family (who had filed suit against Georges). Princess Galitzine writes to warn Marie's family that the Tolstoys plan to publish a damaging article ("article affreux") in Le Phare du Littoral. Marie's mother and Lefèvre intervene with the authorities to prevent publication.
