"Centifolia" (the hundred-petaled rose, Rosa centifolia) is Marie's poetic code name for Mme Amélie Gioia, the demi-mondaine who was companion of the Duke of Hamilton. The main comprehensive entry is at places/cities/GIOIA.md.

Marie uses this name in carnets 002-005, later abandoning it: "Non, elle n'est pas la duchesse Centifolia, ni Laïs non plus, elle est simplement la Gioia" (carnet 002).
