Overview

The surname covers two different referents in Marie's text: (1) Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832), the Scottish novelist and poet, three paragraphs; and (2) Scott, a London maker of waterproofs (Mon Journal t.4 index: «Scott, magasin d'habillement, 137»), one paragraph. The Mon Journal also indexes the novelist: t.4 «Scott (Walter), poète et romancier, 278», t.8 «Scott Walter (écrivain) : 236».

Walter Scott

• 11 January 1875: she reads Dumas like all the young: «tandis que le vénérable Walter Scott est toujours le même ... et la feuille [pliée] au milieu du livre ne s'avance pas» (028.0220), i.e. her bookmark never moves in Scott.
• 30 March 1875: her brother Paul sells her «ses Dumas, Hugo et W. Scott pour soixante francs», since he cannot take them into Russia without the censorship committee (030.0412).
• 29 June 1876: «mon caractère n'est pas celui des héroïnes de Walter Scott, je ne suis pas sensible, je ne suis pas éternelle avec mes amours» (062.0798).

The London shop

On 8 September 1874: «waterproof - Scott : 3 £» in her list of purchases (023.0598); see SAUGSTER and THE_CITY. The tag on this paragraph was removed in the stub-pass apply (2026-10-22); an RSR note there names the shop.
