Prince Pierre Karageorgevitch

Overview

Prince Peter Karageorgevitch (1844–1921), Marie's friend Bojidar's cousin, pretender to the Serbian throne in exile; he married Princess Zorka of Montenegro in 1883 (30 July or 1 August, sources differ) at Cetinje and became King Peter I of Serbia in 1903 (en.wikipedia «Princess Zorka of Montenegro»; «Peter I of Serbia»). Marie's friends BOJIDAR and ALEXIS are the sons of Prince Georges, who had renounced the throne for himself and his descendants (Mon Journal t.12 p.240).

• 27 October 1878: «le père du prince a abdiqué pour lui et ses descendants et c'est le prince Pierre qui est le Don Carlos de la Serbie» (083.0059). The reading correction in the paragraph's notes: it is Georges, not Pierre, who renounced (Mon Journal t.12 p.240).
• 15 March 1883: it is discovered at home that Alexis is «de maison princière», that his cousin Pierre «va être un de ces jours roi de Serbie car la Russie renversera Milan», and that Marie ought to marry Alexis (098.0505).
• 5 August 1883: «Son cousin Pierre épouse la princesse Zorka ... mariage qui pourra bien l'aider à s'asseoir sur le trône de Serbie; Pierre est le chef, le prétendant militant et qui a des chances. Bojidar alors serait prince royal» (100.0498, with a reader footnote).
• 17 September 1883: since the marriage Pierre has become the candidate «prôné par l'empereur Alexandre»; she wonders «si nos Bojidar sont des Karageorgevitch sérieux» and pushes the princess to be on good terms with him, for the family is «en délicatesses» (101.0380).
