Mme Ketly
Také známý jako: Mme Ketly, Ketly
Overview
Mme Ketly, wife of a M. Tchernichoff, said to have poisoned his first wife; mentioned by Marie as the lady he married. Not in the Mon Journal t.4 index under this spelling.
Relevance to Marie
Stub replaced. Spelling Ketly unconfirmed (t.4 index not matching); the rumour is hearsay. Do not read it as fact.
Identity uncertain
We are not sure who this is. Marie mentions Mme Ketly only as the woman whom a Tchernichoff (not the doctor of that name) married, in a sentence repeating a rumour of poisoning (024.0122). We could not find the name in the Mon Journal indexes. If you can identify her, we would be glad to hear from you.
References in Diary
On 27 September 1874, going to church, Marie meets «M. Tchernichoff, celui qui était dernièrement à Nice; celui qui a épousé Mme Ketly, qui dit-on, a empoisonné sa première femme, pas le docteur Tchernichoff enfin» (024.0122). The sentence is ambiguous: the rumour of poisoning attaches either to Mme Ketly or to Tchernichoff's late first wife's death. Marie finds him agreeable but of «si mauvaises manières».
