Marot
Také známý jako: Marot
Overview
Clément Marot (1496–1544), French Renaissance poet at the court of Francis I, famous for his verse epistles. The epistle Marie has in mind is «Au Roi, pour avoir été dérobé» (c. 1531–1532), in which he tells the king that his valet robbed him and slyly asks for money (see the footnote at 038.0120, citing Érudit, Renaissance and Reformation 42.2, 2019; Project MUSE art. 234234). The Mon Journal t.5 index lists «Marot Jean (valet de chambre de François Ier), 226»; the editors have named Jean Marot, Clément's father, but the epistle Marie recalls is Clément's.
