Overview

La jolie parfumeuse is an opéra-comique in three acts by Jacques Offenbach to a libretto by Hector Crémieux and Ernest Blum. It was first performed at the Théâtre de la Renaissance, Paris, on 29 November 1873, and ran for some 200 performances, Offenbach's first major success after the fall of the Empire. Louise Théo created the title role (Rose Michon), and Jeanne Granier replaced her at short notice in the opening run. Offenbach composed it in seven weeks (Wikipedia, "La jolie parfumeuse"). A German version, Schönröschen, opened in Vienna in 1874. It must not be confused with an older vaudeville of 1802 with a similar title, La jolie parfumeuse, ou La robe de conseiller.
