Overview

The hotel at Spa where the Bashkirtseffs arrive on 24 June 1874 («aujourd'hui mercredi 24 juin nous sommes à Spa, à l'hôtel de l'Europe», 020.0374) and which remains their dining place when they take a house, and their base again before leaving for Ostend. Marie writes «l'hôtel de l'Europe» or simply «L'Europe».

In Marie's diary

• 1874-06-24 (020.0374): arrival at Spa. 1874-07-04 (020.0531, 020.0534): «Nous passons chez nous, non plus à l'hôtel de l'Europe mais dans l'appartement où nous avons déménagé depuis ce matin» (opposite the Pouhon, 020.0532), but the same evening «nous dînâmes à l'hôtel de l'Europe» before the ball; 07-05 (021.0012): «Nous avons tous dîné à L'Europe.»
• 1874-08-10 (023.0077): «Nous changeons pour la quatrième fois de logement, cette nuit on passe à l'hôtel de l'Europe»; 08-11 (023.0078): «Il pleut comme quand nous arrivâmes à Spa et nous sommes également à l'hôtel de l'Europe»; Merjeewsky arrives with two live crayfish in a bonbonnière.
