Overview

Concarneau, a fishing port in Finistère, Brittany, a favourite summer place of the painters of the 1880s (Bastien-Lepage, the Académie Julian students, the Anglo-American colony). In October 1883 Marie plans to go and paint there and Julian calls it «une folie en cette saison» (101.0486–0489, 101.0547, 101.0552, 101.0587); Bastien-Lepage's Concarneau studies of 1883 (103.0026, 103.0702).
