Overview

Francis Tattegrain (1852–1915), French naturalist painter born in Péronne, known for scenes of fishermen of the northern coast, who trained at the Académie Julian from 1877 under Lefebvre and Boulanger, exhibited at the Salon from 1879, and settled at Berck (en.wikipedia «Francis Tattegrain»; Musée de Berck).

Relevance to Marie

On 21 August 1883, thinking about who wins medals and how long it takes: «Tattegrain, Rochegrosse... Rochegrosse a vingt-quatre, il y a dix ans qu'il traîne à l'École ou à l'atelier...» (101.0224). He is one of the young Julian painters (and former Julian pupil) whom she measures herself against; see ROCHEGROSSE. The paragraph does not say what he did at the 1883 Salon, and the sources we found do not give his 1883 exhibit.
