Overview

Victorien Sardou (1831–1908), French dramatist, author of the comedies Les Ganaches (1862), Daniel Rochat (Théâtre-Français, first night 16 February 1880), and many melodramas (en.wikipedia «Victorien Sardou»; chronological list of his plays at archive.org, with Daniel Rochat, comédie en cinq actes, first played at the Comédie-Française on 16 February 1880). The Mon Journal t.13 index has «Sardou (Victorien), comédien : 188» (sic).

Relevance to Marie

The one tag is the evening of 16 February 1880, the first night of Daniel Rochat: «Sardou. Véritable évènement. Nous avons une excellente loge de six places. Une salle superbe, du monde et le gouvernement.» She notes Mme Adam with General Turr's wife (Mme Rattazzi's sister), the Countess Walewska's box on the right, Mme Gavini sharing hers until eleven, and herself underdressed in a wool muslin (087.0494). The identification of the play comes from the date (our reading); she writes only «Sardou». Marie also saw his Les Ganaches in 1874 (019.0198; see VAUDEVILLE).
