Portrait de dame (Athènes)
Également connu sous : Portrait of a Lady (Athens), Portrait of a Lady, Προσωπογραφία κυρίας
Overview
Portrait of a Lady, about 1881, oil on canvas, 63 × 59 cm, is in the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum in Athens, inventory Π.267. The museum's record names the donor as "Maria Stepanovna Baskirtzeff-Babanina", the artist's mother, so Greece is one more of the countries where she placed her daughter's work after 1884. The record gives no date of the gift. A copy of the image published on Europeana under CC BY-NC-ND shows a young woman in a black hat with a white collar.
Notes
The sitter is not named. No diary passage has been matched to the picture, and its 1885 catalogue number, if it has one, is not known: the catalogue has many portraits and heads near this size.
