The Duchess of Manchester was Countess Luise Friederike Auguste von Alten (15 October 1832 -- 15 July 1911), a German noblewoman who married William Montagu, 7th Duke of Manchester, in 1852. She was the mother of Lady Mary Montagu, who married the Duke of Hamilton in 1873.
