Coco (the dog)
Également connu sous : Coco, Coco 2, Coco 1er
Coco, Marie's dog (1879-1884)
Marie's pet dog in her Paris years, the companion of her studio hours and (by 1884) the household's spoiled favourite. Marie tells the dog's history on 1884-06-05: after Prater and Pincio (stolen about 1878) she "had the stupidity of having Coco 1er, then the present Coco", and the two dogs "devour each other" while the old Prater, shut away upstairs, died of old age. The diary therefore knows a "Coco 1er" and a "Coco 2"; from the loss and recovery of 1879-08 on, the Coco of the text is Coco 2, who is still alive in August 1884.
