Overview

A man at the Russian embassy in Paris in spring 1881 (Mon Journal t.14 index: «Bachmetieff (M.) : 116»). The only tagged paragraph with his name is 091.0479 (16 April 1881): the family was not invited to the exiled Queen Isabella II's party, because «ce sont les Altavilla qui envoient les cartes et après Appletcheieff ils se sont sans doute informés à l'ambassade auprès de Bachmetieff. Alors c'est complet.» Marie thinks Appletcheieff's gossip and the embassy's information about the Babanine lawsuit in Russia explain the omission.

Identity uncertain

We are not sure who this is. Marie gives only the surname; the t.14 index calls him «M. Bachmetieff» and the earlier RSR places him at the Russian embassy, where Prince Orloff was ambassador and Count Kapnist counsellor. A member of the Bakhmetev family is the likely spelling, but no first name or post was found in the sources checked. If you can identify him, we would be glad to hear from you.
